In this timely seminar (in German), Prof. Dirk Niepelt from the University of Berne gave background to the Swiss "Vollgeldinitiative". The initiators of this initiative claim that a full-money reform would make the financial and banking system crisis-proof and safer. The public vote will take place on 10 June 2018. Prof. Niepelt talked about the basic idea of ​​the initiative, and he suggested an alternative.

41. Forum Financial Market Regulation of 15 March 2018

Dr. Alessandro Rebucci (Carey Business School Edward St. John Real Estate Programm; Economics Department of Krieger School of Art & Science) gave a seminar (in English) on his recent research on house prices and capital flows. Based on his recent and ongoing research on house prices and capital flows, Dr. Rebucci presented a set of stylized facts about residential house prices in advanced and emerging markets, a theoretical framework to think about the role of house prices in the transmission of capital flows shocks and some evidence on the importance of the exchange rate regime and macro-prudential policies in mitigating countries’  vulnerability to such shocks. Dr Rebucci concluded highlighting areas of future research, with particular reference to his work in progress on the ongoing German housing boom.This Forum is a joint event with the Department of Economics UZH and ETH.

40th Forum Financial Market Regulation of 28 February 2018
