More Information about the LL.M. Program
This part-time LL.M. program is specially designed for practitioners seeking to acquire in-depth knowledge of European banking and capital markets regulation for their current or prospective careers.
The next part-time LL.M. program in European Banking and Capital Markets Regulation, jointly offered with the European Banking Institute (EBI), will start in September 2026. The online program is conducted entirely in English, and all courses are held in the evenings of a weekday.

Module Leaders and Lecturers
The module leaders and lecturers combine sound academic knowledge with practical experience in banking, capital markets and insurance regulation, central banking policies and law, financial services, accounting, and compliance. This range of expertise ensures a broad-based, practical, and up-to-date program for the students. The lecturers are drawn from renowned member universities of the EBI such as (in the order of the mandatory modules and electives): University of Hamburg, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Bocconi University, Leiden University, University of Rome, the University of Zurich, University of Genoa, Trinity College Dublin, University of St. Gallen, University Carlos III Madrid, Bucerius Law School, Queen Mary University of London, University of Vienna, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, among others.

Admission and Application
Admission requires a university degree and professional experience in financial market services, supervision, regulation or legal advice. In exceptional cases, individuals with comparable qualifications and experience may also be admitted. The Admissions Committee may also make admission contingent upon a successful interview.
Introductory Meeting and Graduation
Although the lectures are offered fully online, there will be an optional introductory meeting at the University of Zurich in the first semester, and on completion a graduation ceremony, also held at the University of Zurich.

Exams and Credits
The LL.M. program consists of 12 modules à 6 ECTS plus Master Thesis à 8 ECTS and is conducted on a part-time basis. In order to obtain the LL.M. title, all 12 modules plus an MA thesis must be successfully completed. There will be an exam at the end of each module.
The first four general modules build the foundations of the program: basic elements of financial regulation, institutional aspects and current trends, EU banking regulation (1): general aspects, and EU capital markets regulation (1): general aspects.
The next six modules form the core of the program: ESG in the financial system, central banking policies (other than prudential supervision), EU banking regulation (2): specific aspects, EU capital markets regulation (2): specific aspects, digital finance law, and comparative banking and capital markets regulation.
In the second year, students can choose two out of three elective courses: international bank accounting and M&A accounting, EU insurance regulation, and EU regulation of financial groups. In the final semester of the second year, students will complete a Master Thesis; the thesis should not exceed approx. 40 pages, and will be concluded by an oral presentation.
